With it having been almost a year since the requirement for Companies House director ID verification has come into force, the Insolvency Service has secured the first convictions for non-compliance. This comes alongside Companies House issuing a warning in September. One of the key takeaways of these first cases is that directors appear to share collective responsibility for all board members completing their identity verifications. As such, one of the individuals in question was not able to use the fact they themselves complied with the ECCTA 2023 requirement as a defence. Further, not registering someone with Companies House does not serve to protect from liability if said person still acts as a director.
This development emphasises the importance and urgency of achieving compliance for any company that is still yet to complete identity verification for any of their directors. Vanner Perez Notaries is an experienced Authorised Corproate Service Provider and has already completed thousands of verifications.
